Comic Christmas Greeting Postcards

Visit a greeting card shop today and you'll see that a high percentage of Christmas Cards are humorous. The same applies to Wedding, Birthday, and other celebrations. We obviously all want to make our greeting recipients smile.

The comic greeting isn't a new phenomenon. In the early 1900's postcards were frequently sent as a Christmas Greeting or gift. Most Greeting cards of that era were of the traditional variety and it was the Postcard that offered the chance to send something with a comic theme.

I've attached some Edwardian postcards from a series published by Inter-Art (you can click on the images to see them full size). Each postcard nicely illustrates a play on words and carries a Christmas greeting. They are unsigned, just the artists initials S or FS, I think them to be the work of Fred Spurgin.
Edwardian comic greeting postcards are readily available today at a low cost. Once assembled into a collection they can look quite splendid and always raise a smile.

For some American seasonal greeting postcards visit here.

From About Postcards. We trade as Allotment for theme postcards and as ukPostcards for British topographic.
